1:1 or small group coaching: how to choose
Both get you coached on every set. The difference is attention, company and cost. A plain guide to choosing between 1:1 and small group coaching.

It is one of the first things people ask us: should I do 1:1 coaching or join a small group? The honest answer is that both work. Both are coached, both are at your level, and both will get you stronger. The difference is in what else you need from your training.
What is the same
Whichever you choose, a coach is watching your lifts, correcting your technique and choosing weights that suit you. You are not handed a sheet and left to get on with it. Everyone works at their own level, so you never have to keep up with anyone else.
When 1:1 makes more sense
- You are completely new to lifting and would like to learn the basics with a coach to yourself before training alongside others.
- You are coming back from an injury and need every exercise adjusted to how you feel on the day.
- You have a specific goal, such as a first competition or a particular lift, and want a plan built around it.
- You simply train better with someone's full attention. That is a perfectly good reason.
When a small group makes more sense
- You are motivated by other people. It is easier to turn up when people are expecting you, and a bit of friendly competition goes a long way.
- You want to train more often for the same money. Sharing the coach means each session costs less.
- You already know the basics and want steady, coached progress week after week.
- You like the social side. For a lot of people, the group becomes the best part of the week.
You do not have to pick just one
Plenty of people mix the two. A common pattern is to start with a few 1:1 sessions to learn the lifts, then move into a small group. Others train in a group most weeks and book a 1:1 now and then to work on something specific, like a sticking point in their squat.
